AI Development Process

Ten stages take an AI product from the first conversation to a system that is still worth running a year later. Every stage ends in something you can hold us to, so you are never asked to approve progress you cannot see.

Week 1

Discovery and AI Opportunity Mapping

Which workflows are worth automating, and what each one is currently costing you.

What we doWe sit with the people doing the work, map the steps, and put a number on the ones AI could take over. Data sources, volumes and access constraints get audited here, not after a contract is signed.

DeliverablesOpportunity register with a cost attached to each workflow, a shortlist of three to five candidates, and a written recommendation on what to build first.

Week 1–2

Feasibility and Data Readiness

Whether your data can actually support the model before anyone commits a budget to it.

What we doWe profile the data you hold for volume, quality, labelling and bias, then test the hardest assumption cheaply. If retrieval will not ground the answers, you find out in week two rather than month five.

DeliverablesData readiness report, a risk log with mitigations, and a go or no-go call with the reasoning written down.

Week 2–3

Solution Architecture and Model Strategy

The system design, and which model does which job.

What we doWe choose per workload against accuracy, latency and cost, design the gateway so a provider can be swapped without a release, and decide what runs in the cloud versus on the device.

DeliverablesArchitecture diagram, model selection matrix with benchmarks, an integration plan for your existing stack, and a projected monthly inference cost.

Week 3–5

Data Pipeline and Knowledge Base

Getting your own content into a form a model can be trusted to retrieve from.

What we doIngestion, cleaning, chunking and embedding, with access rules carried through so retrieval can never return a document the person asking is not allowed to see.

DeliverablesWorking ingestion pipeline, a populated vector store, and retrieval quality measured against a question set you approve.

Week 4–9

Model Development and Fine-Tuning

Prompting, retrieval, tool use and, where it earns its cost, fine-tuning.

What we doWe build the AI layer itself: prompt and context assembly, tool definitions, guardrails and fallback chains. Fine-tuning happens only where prompting has been shown not to be enough.

DeliverablesTrained or configured models, a versioned prompt and tool library, and an evaluation harness with a baseline score you can hold later versions against.

Week 6–12

Backend and API Development

The service layer between your apps and the models.

What we doAuthentication, rate limits, cost controls, logging and provider failover, plus the integrations into the CRM, ERP or EHR you already run.

DeliverablesDocumented, versioned APIs, infrastructure as code, and a staging environment your own developers can build against.

Week 9–16

Application and Interface Development

The app people actually use, built to stay usable when a model is slow.

What we doNative Swift and Kotlin, or Flutter and React Native where one codebase should serve both. Streaming responses, graceful degradation and clear signals about what the AI is and is not sure of.

DeliverablesStore-ready iOS and Android builds plus any web console, tested on physical devices across OS versions.

Week 12–18

Security, Compliance and AI Governance

The controls that let a regulated business put this in front of customers.

What we doAccess control, data residency, retention rules, prompt-injection defences and an audit trail of every model call. Built for CCPA, HIPAA and SOC 2 obligations where they apply to you.

DeliverablesSecurity review, a data-flow and retention map, an AI governance policy, and the audit logging switched on and verified.

Week 16–20

Testing, Evaluation and Launch

Measured against real tasks, then released in stages.

What we doRegression on the evaluation set, red-teaming for jailbreaks and harmful output, load testing the inference tier, then a staged rollout behind feature flags so a bad release never reaches everyone.

DeliverablesTest and evaluation report, a red-team summary, a live production release, and a rollback path that has been exercised.

Ongoing

Monitoring, Retraining and Optimisation

The part that decides whether the system is still worth running in a year.

What we doToken spend, latency, refusal and fallback rates tracked per feature, drift watched against the baseline, and models re-evaluated as new ones ship. Cost tuning as volume grows.

DeliverablesLive monitoring dashboards, a monthly quality and spend report, and a retraining or model-upgrade cadence agreed with you.
