AI Voice Agent Development Services in Canada

Ten service lines, each scoped for a country where a caller may open in French, dialling rules come from the CRTC and transcripts often have to stay on Canadian servers. Pick one to see what it does, what it changes and where Canadian teams are using it.

Inbound Voice Agents

Every call answered on the first ring, whether it arrives at 7am in St. John’s or 11pm in Victoria. The agent recognises the caller, pulls the answer from your systems and completes the request instead of reciting a menu. The engineering underneath is on our AI voice agent development page.

  • Coverage across all six Canadian time zones without night shifts
  • Replies built from live account and booking data
  • Hand-off to staff with a written summary of the call so far
  • Searchable transcripts kept in a Canadian cloud region

Where Canadian teams use it

  • After-hours lines for clinics, dental offices and law firms
  • Order and parcel tracking questions
  • Balance and policy questions for credit unions and insurers
  • Overflow during tax season or storm-driven call spikes

Outbound Calling Agents

Campaigns built for the CRTC’s Unsolicited Telecommunications Rules. The National DNCL is checked, your internal do-not-call list is honoured, and calls go out only inside permitted hours in the recipient’s own time zone, Newfoundland’s half hour included.

What it changes

  • National DNCL and internal list checks before each dial
  • Permitted calling hours applied per recipient, not per head office
  • Answering-machine detection with a short, compliant message
  • Call result posted to the CRM as soon as the line closes

Where Canadian teams use it

  • Appointment reminders in English or French
  • Policy renewal and prescription refill prompts
  • Overdue invoice reminders with a payment link by text
  • Follow-ups after a technician visit

Bilingual AI Receptionist

A front desk that greets callers in the language they choose, works out what they need, books it and routes the rest. It knows which conversations belong to a person and passes them over without fuss.

What it changes

  • Bonjour-Hello greeting that switches on the caller’s first words
  • Bookings made in the real calendar while the caller waits
  • Routing rules your managers set and can change
  • Identical disclosure and greeting on every call

What it changes

  • Works with Jane App, Accuro, Google and Outlook calendars
  • Moves and cancellations handled, not only new bookings
  • Confirmation by text or email in the caller’s language
  • Fewer no-shows thanks to a spoken read-back of the slot

Customer Support Voice Agents

First-line support that resolves routine calls from your own help content and steps aside cleanly once a call needs a person. The text version of the same job is on our AI chatbot development services page.

What it changes

  • Routine requests closed on the call, not just logged
  • Every answer traceable to the article it came from
  • Transfers carry context so callers never start over
  • Resolution and satisfaction reported per call reason

Where Canadian teams use it

  • Billing and plan questions for telecom and utilities
  • Guided troubleshooting for devices and software
  • Returns and warranty claims

English, French & Multilingual Agents

One agent that hears whether the caller started in English or French and carries on in that language, using Canadian French voices rather than European ones. Further languages are added where your callers need them.

What it changes

  • Canadian French (fr-CA) recognition and voices, not Parisian
  • Language picked up from the caller’s first sentence
  • Punjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog and Arabic on request
  • A single knowledge base serving every language

Where Canadian teams use it

Governance

Designed for the rules that govern calling in Canada

In Canada a voice agent answers to the CRTC on dialling, to federal and provincial privacy law on what it records, and in Quebec to French-language rules on how it speaks. Our healthcare voice agent case study shows the same discipline on a patient line. We build these rules into the call flow, and your legal team approves the script before launch. We are engineers, not lawyers.

Use Cases

What Canadian businesses hand to a voice agent

Twelve call types we see across Canadian organisations, each with a measurable cost per call, which is how we decide whether it is worth automating. The builds behind them: AI voice agent development, AI agent development and AI chatbot development.

Healthcare

Clinic Booking Line

Books, moves and cancels patient visits overnight and at weekends, in English or French, and sends anything clinical to staff or the on-call line.

Pharmacy

Prescription Refill Requests

Takes refill requests by phone, checks the prescription number and queues it for the pharmacist instead of approving anything itself.

Sales

Inbound Lead Response

Calls a new web enquiry back within a minute, asks your qualifying questions and books the meeting, recording consent for any follow-up.

Collections

Overdue Balance Reminders

Runs a courteous reminder inside provincial contact rules, texts a payment link and removes anyone who asks to stop.

Logistics

Delivery Booking & Changes

Confirms or rebooks a delivery slot the day before, including rural routes and winter road closures that move the schedule.

Restaurants

Takeout & Catering Orders

Takes orders through the dinner rush, handles substitutions and sends the ticket straight to the kitchen display.

Insurance

Claims First Report

Records the details of a car, home or travel claim at any hour, opens the file and explains the next step to the caller.

Utilities & telecom

Outage Information Line

Absorbs the surge during storms, checks the caller’s address against known incidents and gives the latest restoration estimate.

Municipal

Service Request Line

Logs potholes, missed collections and bylaw complaints in either official language and reads back a reference number.

Hospitality

Rooms, Tables & Tours

Handles bookings against live availability, including ski-season peaks when the front desk is overrun.

Education

Admissions Enquiries

Answers program, deadline and fee questions for colleges, including international applicants calling in their own language.

Home services

Seasonal Service Booking

Fills furnace, HVAC and snow-removal schedules when the first cold snap sends every customer to the phone at once.

Why Appther

Why Canadian teams choose Appther for voice AI

Most vendors can demo a voice agent on a quiet line in English. Fewer can make it hold up in French, inside CRTC rules, with data that stays in Canada, and keep improving it after launch. Ten reasons clients stay with us.

01

Voice Is Our Specialty

Streaming recognition, interruptions, telephony and model orchestration are built in house. Voice behaves differently from chat, and we learned those lessons on earlier deployments, not on your line.

02

Bilingual From Sprint One

French is designed in, not translated at the end. Prompts, voices, pronunciation lists and test calls are prepared in both languages from the first week.

03

Sub-Second Replies

We engineer for replies under 800 milliseconds. Long silences make callers think the line has dropped, and good wording cannot win them back.

04

Shadow Mode First

The agent drafts answers on real calls that no caller hears, so you can compare it with your own team before it handles a single live conversation.

05

Compliance in the Call Flow

DNCL checks, calling hours, recording notices and Law 25 requirements sit inside the logic from day one, which costs far less than retrofitting them after a complaint.

06

Hard Escalation Rules

Clinical, legal and money decisions go to a person because the code says so, not because the model happened to decide it.

07

Canadian Data Residency

Audio, transcripts and logs can stay in Montreal, Toronto or Calgary cloud regions, with speech vendors chosen to match your privacy commitments.

08

Swap-Friendly Architecture

Speech, language model and telephony providers sit behind one layer, so a cheaper or faster vendor replaces a component rather than the whole agent.

09

Straight Answers on Fit

If a call type should stay with people, we say so in discovery. A few call types that work beat a long list that fails in front of customers.

10

Support Across Six Time Zones

A project manager overlaps your hours from Newfoundland to British Columbia, and ongoing plans cover tuning, latency monitoring and carrier issues.

Engagement Models

Four ways to engage our voice team

Voice projects differ in size and risk, so the team shape should too. Most Canadian clients begin with a fixed-price pilot on a single call type and move to a dedicated team once the results are proven.

Dedicated Team

Voice engineers, conversation designers and QA working only on your agent, led by a project manager whose day overlaps yours.

  • Exclusive to Your Project
  • Reviews in Your Time Zone
  • Flex the Team Size

Fixed Cost

One call type, a defined scope and milestones, with a single CAD price agreed before any build work. The usual starting point for a first pilot.

  • Scope Agreed First
  • Pay by Milestone
  • GST/HST Invoicing

Team Augmentation

Engineers who work inside your sprints, repositories and tools, filling the voice and AI skills your team is missing while you keep the roadmap.

Our Process

How we build a voice agent for Canadian callers

Ten stages move your agent from existing call recordings to a line customers use in English and French without a second thought. Each stage produces something you can hear, read or measure before the next one begins.

Week 1

Call Review & Business Case

Which calls to automate first, and what they cost today.

What we doWe sample your recordings in both languages, read the call logs and sort calls by reason, length, outcome and cost. Frequent, low-risk calls make the shortlist. Calls that need judgement stay with your people, and the report explains why.
What you getCall-reason inventory with volumes and costs, a shortlist of automation candidates, and a recommended starting line.
Week 1–2

Privacy & Dialling Rules

What the agent may record, store and dial, settled before the build.

What we doWe confirm which callers are in Quebec, decide where data will live, draft recording notices, and check outbound plans against the UTR, the National DNCL and CASL for any text follow-up. Your counsel or privacy officer reviews the scripts at this stage.
What you getPrivacy and consent design, a data residency plan, dialling rules by province and time zone, and approved scripts.
Week 2–3

Bilingual Conversation Design

The wording in both languages, including the awkward moments.

What we doFlows are written from real calls in English and Canadian French rather than translated afterwards. We set tone, pacing, how the agent confirms details, how it recovers when it mishears and when it must hand over.
What you getCall flows for each intent in both languages, an escalation policy, and an agreed persona guide.
Week 3–4

Voice Selection & Speech Tuning

Choosing voices and teaching the agent your words.

What we doYour team picks English and fr-CA voices in a listening session. We then add pronunciations for product, street and place names, from Saguenay to Saskatoon, and tune recognition for regional accents and noisy surroundings.
What you getApproved voices, a bilingual pronunciation dictionary, and baseline transcription accuracy on your recordings.
Week 4–7

Numbers, Carriers & Caller ID

Getting calls through on Canadian networks.

What we doWe provision or port Canadian numbers, connect SIP trunks or your existing PBX, confirm STIR/SHAKEN attestation with the carrier, and set a valid callback number on every outbound call.
What you getWorking numbers, carrier and trunk settings, caller ID checks on major networks, and text messaging set up for confirmations.
Week 5–9

Agent Build & System Links

The agent itself and the systems it uses mid-call.

What we doWe build orchestration for interruptions, tool use, retries and failover, then connect the CRM, booking tool or EMR so the agent reads live data and records outcomes while the caller is still on the line.
What you getA working agent in staging, integration test results, and latency measurements against the sub-second target.
Week 8–11

Shadow Mode on Live Calls

Silent practice on real conversations.

What we doThe agent follows live calls next to your staff and writes the reply it would have given, which no caller hears. Your team reviews where it was right, where it was wrong and where it was too sure of itself.
What you getA shadow report with accuracy by intent and language, recurring failure patterns, and the fixes made before launch.
Week 10–13

Regression Testing

Proof it survives the calls that break most systems.

What we doAutomated suites replay hard recordings: strong accents, switching between English and French mid-sentence, background noise, interruptions and callers who change their minds. Required notices are checked on every run.
What you getA regression suite in your CI pipeline, pass results per intent, and a written list of known limits.
Week 12–16

Gradual Go-Live

Real traffic, in amounts you control.

What we doLaunch starts with a share of calls or one call type. We track containment, transfers and caller sentiment daily and widen coverage only when the figures hold, with instant rollback ready the whole time.
What you getA live agent on production calls, a daily dashboard, and a tested rollback plan.
Ongoing

Monitoring & Continuous Tuning

Keeping quality up as products, prices and callers change.

What we doEvery call is scored, drift is flagged before customers notice, and scripts are adjusted each sprint from what callers actually said. Carrier problems and spam labelling are watched, not discovered by accident.
What you getMonthly reports, a tuning log, latency and containment trends, and a support channel in Canadian business hours.

FAQs

AI voice agent questions from Canadian clients

Can an AI voice agent make outbound sales calls in Canada?+

Yes, within the CRTC’s Unsolicited Telecommunications Rules. Sales calls must respect the National Do Not Call List, your internal do-not-call list and the permitted calling hours in the recipient’s time zone, and the rules on automatic dialing-announcing devices mean prerecorded or synthetic sales messages need express consent. We build the list checks, calling windows, identification and opt-out into the agent, and your counsel approves the script before anything dials. We are engineers, not lawyers.

Do your voice agents speak Canadian French?+

Yes. We use fr-CA speech recognition and Canadian French voices, tuned on Québécois vocabulary and accents rather than European French. The agent notices whether the caller opened in English or French and continues in that language, which matters for Quebec businesses that must serve consumers in French. Punjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog and Arabic can be added where your callers need them.

Where are call recordings and transcripts stored?+

Wherever your privacy commitments require. For most Canadian clients that means Canadian cloud regions such as AWS in Montreal or Calgary and Azure in Toronto or Quebec City, with speech and model vendors chosen accordingly. If Quebec residents’ personal information will be processed outside Quebec, we help you prepare the privacy impact assessment Law 25 expects, and retention and redaction rules are applied automatically.

Do callers need to be told they are talking to an AI or being recorded?+

We recommend both, and build them in. Canadian privacy law expects callers to be told that a call is recorded and why, and Quebec’s Law 25 adds notice duties when decisions are made solely by automated processing. The agent introduces itself as an AI assistant, gives the recording notice with its purpose, and offers a person whenever the caller asks.

Can the agent connect to our CRM, EMR or booking system?+

Yes, and that is where most of the value comes from. We connect to Salesforce, HubSpot, Dynamics 365 and Zendesk, Canadian clinic tools such as Jane App, Accuro and TELUS Health EMRs, Google and Outlook calendars, Moneris or Stripe for payments, and custom systems over API. The agent reads live data, writes the outcome back and leaves a summary on the record.

How much does an AI voice agent cost in Canada?+

A focused agent for one call type, such as booking or order status, usually costs CA$20,000 to CA$40,000 to build. A multi-intent bilingual agent with CRM writeback, payments and compliance logic typically runs CA$50,000 to CA$100,000. Running costs are charged per minute across telephony, speech and the model, and we model them against your call volume first. Contracts are fixed-price in CAD with GST/HST invoicing.

How long does it take to launch?+

Plan on 6 to 8 weeks for a pilot on one call type, which includes a shadow period on live calls. A bilingual production rollout with several intents and integrations usually takes 12 to 16 weeks, and the first sprint starts within 7 days of signing.

Do you have an office in Canada?+

Appther has a representative office in Montreal, and delivery is run by our engineering team, with meetings and support scheduled in your time zone, from Atlantic to Pacific. Our head office is in Noida, India, with representative offices in the United States and Australia as well.
