What We Do

Azure Migration, End to End

Migration is mostly preparation. These are the pieces that make the cutover uneventful.

01

Discovery & Assessment

  • Full inventory of servers, databases, applications and dependencies
  • Every workload scored against the six R's before anything moves
  • Findings and a wave plan you keep, whether or not you engage us
02

Azure Landing Zone

  • Subscription and management group structure set up once, properly
  • Networking, identity and policy guardrails in place before the first workload
  • Built as code with Bicep or Terraform, so it is reproducible
03

Server & VM Migration

  • Physical, VMware and Hyper-V workloads moved with Azure Migrate
  • Replication first, cutover second, with a rollback path kept open
  • Right-sized on arrival instead of lifting oversized hardware specs
04

Database Migration

  • SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and Oracle assessed for the right target
  • Azure SQL, Managed Instance or VM chosen on requirements, not habit
  • Row counts and application behaviour validated before cutover, not after
05

Application Replatforming

  • Web apps moved to App Service or containers where it pays to
  • Config, secrets and certificates moved out of servers and into Azure
  • Refactoring limited to what the migration actually requires
06

Containers & AKS

  • Existing containers moved onto AKS with ingress, scaling and registry
  • Cluster sizing, node pools and upgrade strategy agreed up front
  • Monitoring and log collection wired in from day one
07

Data & Storage Migration

  • File shares, object storage and archives moved with integrity checks
  • Storage tiers chosen so archive data stops costing hot-tier rates
  • Backup and retention rebuilt in Azure rather than carried across
08

DevOps & CI/CD

  • Pipelines rebuilt in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
  • Infrastructure as code so the environment is repeatable
  • Deployment made boring before the migration finishes
09

Cutover & Hypercare

  • Rehearsed cutover with an agreed window and a rollback decision point
  • Someone on call through the switchover, not just during business hours
  • A hypercare period after go-live while the estate settles
10

Post-Migration Optimisation

  • Right-sizing once real usage data exists, which is where savings appear
  • Reservations and savings plans applied against actual steady-state load
  • Handover to your team, or to our Azure managed services
Migration Strategy

The Six R's, Applied Per Workload

Not everything should move the same way and some things should not move at all. Every workload is scored against these six during the assessment.

Rehost

Lift and shift the workload as it is. Fastest path off ageing hardware, and the usual choice when a data centre contract is ending.

FastestLowest changeAzure Migrate

Replatform

Move it, but swap the parts that are cheaper to run as a managed service, such as a database server becoming Azure SQL.

Managed servicesLess to patchCommon default

Refactor

Change the application to suit the cloud. The most expensive option, worth it only where the current design is the actual constraint.

Highest effortBest long-term fitScoped tightly

Repurchase

Replace the workload with a SaaS product instead of migrating it. Often the right answer for commodity systems nobody wants to maintain.

SaaS swapNo migrationLower run cost

Retire

Switch it off. Most estates carry servers nobody has used in years, and the assessment is usually where that finally gets confirmed.

Immediate savingLess to secureFound in assessment

Retain

Leave it where it is, for now. Licensing, latency or compliance sometimes make staying put the correct decision this year.

Our Process

From First Inventory to Steady State

Five phases, so nothing about your estate is discovered during the cutover.

1
Phase 1

Assess

Inventory, dependency mapping and a six R's decision for every workload, with the surprises found now rather than at cutover.

2
Phase 2

Design

Landing zone, networking, identity and residency agreed and built as code before a single workload moves.

3
Phase 3

Pilot

A low-risk workload moved end to end first, so the runbook is proven on something that will not hurt.

4
Phase 4

Migrate

Workloads moved in waves, each with a rehearsed cutover window and a rollback decision point.

5
Phase 5

Optimise

Right-sizing and reservations applied once real usage data exists, then handover or ongoing management.

What You Get

How We Run Azure Migrations

Commitments about how the work is run, not averages borrowed from someone else's project.

AU

Data residency

Workloads and backups pinned to Australian Azure regions, documented for audit.

Azure Migrations Across Australian Business

Six sectors we migrate to Azure, each with a different reason the cutover window is hard to get.

Financial Services solutions
01

Financial Services

Regulated workloads where the migration itself needs an audit trail.

  • Evidence for change boards
  • Rehearsed cutovers
  • Access governance from day one
Healthcare solutions
02

Healthcare

Patient data that cannot leave the country or sit unencrypted mid-move.

  • Australian region targets
  • Encrypted replication
  • Retention rebuilt, not copied
Retail solutions
03

Retail

Estates that cannot cut over during a promotion, so timing drives the plan.

  • Off-peak migration waves
  • Peak scaling after landing
  • Failover proven before go-live
Mining & Resources solutions
04

Mining & Resources

Remote sites and links too thin to move bulk data over the wire.

  • Offline transfer for bulk data
  • Site-by-site waves
  • Connectivity assessed first
Education solutions
05

Education

Term dates decide the window, so migrations run between teaching periods.

  • Migration between terms
  • Scheduled scaling after move
  • Exam-period freeze respected
Professional Services solutions
06

Professional Services

Small estates that still cannot afford an unplanned day offline.

  • Short, rehearsed windows
  • Backup verified before cutover
  • Predictable cost after landing

FAQ

Questions We Hear Every Week

It depends on how many workloads move and how much has to change on the way. A small estate of a few servers and one database is usually weeks; a large estate with application refactoring runs into months. We size it during the assessment and give you a wave plan rather than a single date, so the first workloads move while later ones are still being prepared.
Most workloads move with a planned cutover window rather than no interruption at all. We agree the window in advance, rehearse the cutover, and keep a rollback path open until the new environment is confirmed healthy. Where a system genuinely cannot stop, we use replication and a staged switchover, which costs more but shortens the window considerably.
It is the standard way of deciding what to do with each workload: rehost, replatform, refactor, repurchase, retire or retain. The point is that not everything should move the same way, and some things should not move at all. We assess every workload against these six before any migration work begins.
Yes, where that is what you need. Workloads and backups can be pinned to Australian Azure regions, and we document the residency position so it can be shown to an auditor or a customer asking the same question.
Cost tracks the number of workloads, how much replatforming is involved, and whether you need the environment hardened and monitored afterwards. Assessment is a fixed, scoped piece of work, and it is what makes the rest estimable. We quote the migration itself once we know what is actually in the estate.
Yes. Common starting points are on-premises VMware or Hyper-V, physical servers, colocated hardware, and workloads already running in AWS or another cloud. The assessment covers the source environment as it actually is, including the parts nobody documented.
Databases usually get the most attention, because they carry the most risk. Depending on the engine and the downtime you can tolerate, we move them with backup and restore, replication, or Azure Database Migration Service, and we validate row counts and application behaviour before cutover rather than after.
We set up the subscription and management group structure as part of the landing zone, and advise on licensing options such as reservations, savings plans and Azure Hybrid Benefit where existing licences can be reused. Commercial agreements stay in your name.
The first month after a migration is where the cost surprises show up, because everything was sized for safety during the move. We right-size, remove what is no longer used, and tune. From there you can run the estate yourself or hand it to our Azure managed services team.
That is the usual arrangement. Your team knows the applications and the business; we bring the Azure side and the migration mechanics. We document as we go so your team can run the environment afterwards rather than depending on us.
